Take A Second Look: Do You Really Have a Relationship With Your Children?

THE PARENT:

In your circle of friends, circle of influence and society at large you are the ‘It’ parent. People admire the relationship you have with your children. You proudly talk about your children everywhere you go and the relationship you have with them. As far as you are concerned, you are the SI Unit of parenthood. You silently wonder why the parenthood awards are taking so long to fall into your lap, after all you are the greatest parent that ever lived. And the relationship you have build with your children is rock solid, to be emulated by all.

THE CHILD:

You look at your parents and wonder what world they live in. You wonder if they have a sight problem. As far as you are concerned anytime the charade relationship they claim to have with you will crumble, scratch that, you actively pray that the charade be exposed. You live a double life. The smiley you with your parents. Talking only what they want to hear. Then the real you with people who accept you for you. Anytime you are with your parents requires an extra ounce of strength and patience, to maintain the ‘look’.

Bless this our land and nation

Bless this our land and Nation

O God of all creation, bless this our land and nation.

The Hebrew word for bless is בָּרַךְ (barak) which means:

Bless= bestow power for success, prosperity, fertility: animals Gn 1:22, men 1:28, 7th day 2:3 , field 27:27; —
Bless = declare a person endowed w. power for success, prosperity, fertility: God — Abraham Gn 12:2; men — Jacob 27:29; Melchizedek — Abraham 14:19; father — his son 27:4; Israel — Pharaoh Ex 12:32; (Holladay Lexicon)

So when we are singing the Kenyan National Anthem and asking the God of all creation to bless this our land and nation in essence we are asking for success and prosperity for our land – its produce both plants and animals (of the land and waters) and of our nation – the peoples therein, as individuals, as families, as clans, as tribes, in their geographical locations and the the entire nation as a whole.

The earliest mention of God blessing land and people is after creation (see references above). The next mention is when God makes a covenant with Abraham, He promises to bless Abraham and as a result Abraham would become a blessing to the nations of the earth. Therefore to ask for God to bless our land and nation is not just for ourselves but also so that we may become a conduit of those same blessings to others. And all this doesn’t happen in a vacuum, but within a covenant relationship between God and man. This is currently made possible through Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

O GOD of all creation, bless this our land of Kenya and the people of Kenya. Have mercy upon us as you restore and draw us back to yourself through Jesus Christ. Lord restore the prosperity and fertility of our land and animals, restore the prosperity and fertility of our people. And as you bless us help us and use us to be a blessing to all those around us, nations and lands. In Jesus name, Amen

O God of all creation

O God of all creation

This is a most profound and important opening line of the Kenyan National Anthem.

It sets the pace and the foundation for the rest of the anthem; it definitely marks out the Kenyan National Anthem as a prayer.

So who is this God of all creation?

Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

That is the God we are praying to as Kenyan’s when we sing the National Anthem – the creator of heaven and earth and everything therein.

One of his most telling character is double edged and clearly presented in John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that He gave His ONLY Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Our Creator God is characterized by love and holiness. He who is the God and creator of all creation loves what He created so much that even before the foundations of the earth He set in motion a redemption plan! Hallelujah. He stands undefiled by sin and yet loves those defiled by it. In His love He gave His Son to reconcile sinners back to Himself; by clothing them in the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ.

Love exemplified, holiness and righteousness attained, justice fulfilled: John 3:16

He is love and He is Holy: both stand uncompromised! Both stand fulfilled and satisfied in John 3:16

Prayer:

O God of all creation, O God who is love and Holy we call upon you today on behalf of our nation. And what we ask is for mercy, have mercy on us You whose property is always to have mercy, have mercy on us. Our Creator, draw us back to your Holiness in love, back to a restored relationship with you; as individuals, as families and as an entire nation. In Jesus Name, Amen!
