Let one and all arise

Let one and all arise

And I told them of the hand of my God which had been upon me for good, and also of the words which the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work. (Nehemiah 2:18 RSV)

Nehemiah 3 gives a detailed account of how everyone arose to build up the wall of Jerusalem under the leadership of Nehemiah (see picture above for a visual description).

O God of all creation, help the people of Kenya to rise up: one and all. The rising up we pray about in the Kenya National Anthem is both individual and collective. Every individual must rise and do their part, every individual must rise up and reject evil, corruption, make a choice to follow God: individually. Then collectively as a people, as a nation we must in unity rise up and stand up for what pleases God. The arising is not just on a national level to address national issues but at a family unit level, organisational level, geographical areas and every place where we come together in groups.

Collective unity and arising is only achievable when individuals within the nation do their part. Then we shall all arise. There is a blessing in unity, there is synergy, there is great achievement: it might be slow, it might take time but it will definitely last longer. And if the arising is done under God’s guidance, through God’s strengthening, and for God’s glory the impact will last for eternity!

Prayer:

O God of all creation, help the nation of Kenya that we shall one and all arise. Arise and bring you glory, arise and obey you, arise and honor you, arise and follow hard after you. Arise and work hard, fulfilling the individual and collective purpose for which you put us on the face of the earth. In Jesus Name, Amen!
